Even when times are tough, many Americans budget a portion of their assets to go to charity. According to Giving USA, a research institute that publishes data and trends on charitable giving, Americans contributed more than $298.42 billion to charities in 2011. While your heart may guide you to a particular charity, don’t just hand over your hard-earned money without getting some information. Though all charities purport to be doing good work, some organizations have less than stellar track records. Just as you would scrutinize a financial investment, so should you examine a charity to ensure your money makes the biggest impact possible.

No clearer were these principles tested than when the crew of the AFR Midnight Rambler, facing hurricane-force winds and monstrous waves, piloted their tiny vessel through the storm to win the Sydney Hobart Race, known as the “Everest of ocean racing.”
Salt Lake Community College has launched an internship program to help connect students with a range of educational opportunities. The program is focused on providing students with internships in the Washington, D.C. area, but are not limited to political internships. Students select internships that align with their area of study; the College helps to facilitate the process of securing the internships.
Two Fayetteville State University Student Teams Finalists in UNC Social Business Competition: One Team Wins 2nd Place
Fayetteville State University and UNC-Chapel Hill were the only two institutions among the 17 in the UNC system to have both of their teams make it to the final round of the UNC Social Business Conference competition held on Thursday, September 27th. The Social Business Conference was hosted by the UNC General Administration on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University. Each UNC institution was allowed two teams to compete and present their proposals on a social entrepreneurial business idea for a business that has one or more objectives that addresses societal needs. Thirty-one teams presented at the conference, resulting in 9 finalists who competed in the second round.
