In “The Funk & Wag from A to Z” \, originally curated by Ann Harithas for the Nave Museum in Victoria\, TX \, artist Mel Chin extracted images from all 25 volumes of the 1953 Funk & Wagnall’s Encyclopedia and re-edited them a collages\, unleashing the p otentiality of images trapped by historical context.  Chin� �s inspiring piece is showcased alongside new configurations of more recen t works by the artist in this exhibition.

The Cucalorus Film Festival was founded in 1994.  At the inaugural event\, crowds wrapped around the bloc k to see 16 local films screening at a restaurant by the Cape Fear River. These days Cucalorus Film Festival takes place every November in historic Wilmington\, NC screening over 100 independent and international films in venues like the recently restored Thalian Hall\, as well as City Stage The ater\, TheatreNOW\, Jengo's Playhouse\, and The Soapbox.  In 2009 MovieMa ker Magazine recognized it as one of the '25 Coolest Film Festivals' and b y the Brooks Institute as one of the 'Top Ten Film Festivals'.  The festi val will take place November 8 - November 11 this year.

November is American Indian & Alaska Native Heritage Month. Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures\, trad itions\, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of N ative people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the gene ral public about tribes\, to raise a general awareness about the unique ch allenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present\, a nd the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challeng es.

Cape Fear Community College along with Children’s Museum of Wilmington and the Battleship North Carolina will host a variety of eve nts during the month of November. Waccamaw-Souian Day will be held on Nove mber 3rd at CFCC Tabitha’s Courtyard between 10 am and 3 pm. • On Nove mber 6th\, Dr. Phil Garwood of CFCC will be a guest on Midday Interview wi th Jemila Ericson\, WHQR 91.3 at 12:30pm highlighting the rich culture of the areas earliest inhabitants. • Join Teddy Draper Jr. the son of one l ast Navaho Code talkers at Battleship North Carolina auditorium on Veteran s Day\, Nov. 12th at 7pm.
