Jazz musician\, trumpeter\, composer\, bandleader\, advocate for the arts\, and educator\, Wynton Marsalis has helped propel jazz to t he forefront of American culture. His prominent position in American cultu re was solidified when he became the first jazz artist to be awarded the P ulitzer Prize. He has produced a catalogue of more than 40 jazz and classi cal recordings for Columbia Jazz and Sony Classical\, which have won him n ine GRAMMY® awards. In 1983\, he became the first and only artist to win both classical and jazz GRAMMY® awards in one year\, and he repeated this feat in 1984. Following a grand 50th birthday celebration concert in New York City\, Wynton Marsalis returns to Wilmington with the internationally acclaimed Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
