WB Surf Camp announces the 2nd Annu al Aloha Charity Surf Camp for children and adults affected by Alopecia an d Cancer. This complimentary surf camp will be held on August 11\, 2012 at Access #4 in Wrightsville Beach\, N.C. Advance registration is required. The purpose of the camp is to raise awareness\, bring communi ty and fellowship\, and help build confidence and self-esteem through the sport of surfing.
\nWrightsville Beach\, N.C.\, August 3\, 2012 –The 2nd Annual Aloha f or Alopecia and Cancer Survivors Charity Surf Camp will take place on Augu st 11\, 2012 in Wrightsville Beach\, N.C. WB Surf Camp organizes this uniq ue\, memorable\, and free event to honor individuals and families living w ith alopecia or battling cancer. We are excited to be working this year wi th CAP\, the Children’s Alopecia Project\, a nonprofit that was created to help any child who is living with hair loss due to all forms of alopeci a. Over 250 participants from around the U.S. are registered for this ye ar’s event.
\nAlopecia Areata is an autoimmune condition that result s in hair loss on the scalp and can progress to complete hair loss through out the body. To date\, there is no cure for this condition and it affects over 5 million people alone in the United States. Although Alopecia Areata is not life threatening\, it is definitely life altering t o the people and families affected.
\nThe special cha rity surf camp welcomes individuals with Alopecia Areata as well as those battling cancer. Patients of these conditions often have hair loss in comm on. Many people undergoing cancer treatment will lose their hair\, so not only do they have to fight for their lives but they also have to deal with the psychological and emotional trauma of losing their hair.
\nThe founder of WB Surf Camp\, Rick Civelli\, was diagnosed with Alopecia Areat a when he was 17 and has shaved his head most every day since. 'I lost the majority of my head hair in less than a week\, so I just sha ved my head. As a surfer\, the most important thing to me was getting into the ocean to surf. I want to share my passion of surfing and the amazing confidence building and healing powers of the ocean with others affected b y Alopecia and bring a smile to their face. If I was not a surfer\, I'm no t sure how I would have dealt with it'\, says Rick.

ng with those who need to be touched by the healing powers of the ocean. These sessions also honor those who have had a positive impact
on our community\, including veterans\, active military\, and mothers.
