The New Hanover County Board of Education will hold an interim meeting on Monday, October 18, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. to further discuss the signing of a required letter from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction regarding the district’s Disadvantaged Students Supplemental Funding allocation. Signatures from both the Board Chairman Ed Higgins and Superintendent Dr. Tim Markley are required for the letter to certify that Board policies have not contributed to the segregation of the schools on the basis of social or economic status. Board members raised questions about the signing of the letter at the October 5, 2011 Board of Education meeting and decided to hold an additional meeting this month to further discuss the issue. They have also asked Board Attorney Wayne Bullard to provide his opinion on the matter. The meeting will be held at the Dale K. Spencer Building.
