A Green Tie & Gala Affair & Debutante Presentation
On Saturday, March 9, 2013 the Alpha Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated will sponsor a two-fold event - "A Green Tie & Gala Affair & Debutante Presentation". This occasion will be held from 7:00PM until 11:00 PM at The Terraces on Sir Tyler.
The scholarship fundraiser, "A Green Tie & Gala Affair" has been held since 2010. Proceeds enable the Alpha Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to award scholarships to deserving college-bound students in the Greater Wilmington Area. This formal affair includes dinner, dancing and the reemergence of the debutante presentation. Since 2011, the Alpha Psi Omega chapter has awarded six thousand dollars in scholarships to deserving local young women.
The Presentation portion of this occasion will debut four young ladies from New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender County Schools. Miss Bria Sherrod attends Pender Early College; Miss Brianna Smith attends John T. Hoggard High School; Miss Roshanna Thatch also attends John T. Hoggard High School; and Miss Jahlessa Todd attends North Brunswick High School. Historically, the primary purpose of the debutante cotillion and/or ball is to introduce young ladies, who have reached the age of maturity, to society. This presentation is the culminating event of various programs, activities, and workshops held for them since March 17, 2012. The ticket cost is $55.00 per person, and must be purchased in advance from a member of the chapter.
