DESCRIPTION:<p>The public health system delivers essential services that pr
 otect the health of your community and brings enormous value to creating a
  healthy nation. If we are to address the economic and health-related cost
 s of chronic and communicable disease and injuries\, we must strengthen ou
 r nation’s investment in prevention and public health. But the public he
 alth system is confronting a crisis: declining budgets\, more demands\, an
  aging and shrinking workforce\, changing skill sets\, technology hurdles\
 , integration of public health into primary care\, lack of understanding o
 f the role of public health by the public\, opinion leaders and policy-mak
 ers and a myriad of other challenges.</p>\n<p>Building on the success of o
 ur Midyear Meeting in June 2012\, please join the American Public Health A
 ssociation and our partners as we address these and other issues at The Ne
 w Public Health – Rewiring for the Future June 26-28\, 2013\, in Charlot
 te\, N.C. This Midyear Meeting will offer public health professionals\, pa
 rtners and stakeholders the opportunity to learn in an interactive environ
 ment from some of the leading experts within and outside of the field  ab
 out how the public health system must position itself to address the chang
 ing needs and demands it confronts and seize the opportunities that await.
  It will equip attendees from federal\, state\, local and tribal agencies 
 and organizations with the educational\, policy and advocacy tools needed 
 for keeping up with and anticipating the changes that will be necessary to
  “rewire” the public health infrastructure.</p>\n<p>These are challeng
 ing times\, yet now is the time to shape a public health system that can b
 e even more efficient and effective at creating the healthiest nation in o
 ne generation. We look forward to seeing you in June at the APHA Midyear M
