Preventing Homework Hassles
Many parents spend long hours each weeknight supervising their children’s homework. “If you feel your child has too much homework, first, evaluate the situation,” said UAB education instructor Tonya Perry, M.Ed. “Is the child staying up too late to finish assignments? Is the child involved in numerous after-school activities? If you feel your child has too much homework, or if he’s having problems in a particular subject, seek advice from the teacher. Teach children how to organize their work by having them make a checklist of all their assignments. They also can create a calendar showing when their assignments are due. Try requesting homework assignments early, which can help children who participate in after-school activities.”
