Unarmed - Another Black Teen Gunned Down by Cops
NEW YORK CITY (NNPA) - There is uproar in the hood - again. Hitting him 10 times, five cops, including two sergeants and a detective, shot and killed unarmed 18-year-old Kyle Coppin in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Nov. 12. "The first shot was fatal because that hit him in the chest. They hit him with at least nine more. Patience is the Heart of Ethics, Says Philosopher

While fidgety children may be told that "patience is a virtue," a University of Arkansas philosopher has found patience to be much more profound than simple, passive waiting. Rather, patience is "the living heart of ethics."
In a presentation on Nov. 8 to the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy, Irene McMullin discussed patience as a "neglected virtue," little examined by philosophy or society at large. Continue»

New Book Explores Internet Use and Society
Author Aaron Barlow focuses on what he calls "neteracy" (the ability to effectively negotiate the Web) and "massed media" (media coming from the people). He talks about the growing need for people to become "neterate" as well as literate, to take full advantage of the Web.
