Mothers and Their Children Suffer Most
with Persistently High Poverty; Gender Wage Gap Stagnant
Washington, DC New analysis by the Institute for Womens
Policy Research of Census Bureau poverty and income figures reveals
continuing economic hard times for women. While single mothers constitute
less than one-fifth of all families, they make up half of all families
in poverty. Furthermore, almost 40 percent of families headed by

of Poverty Linked to Improvement in Childhood Psychiatric

with improvement in symptoms of behavioral psychiatric disorders
in children, such as problem conduct and "oppositional defiant
disorder" (ODD), according to researchers at Duke University

which I suggested that the Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT) score
gap between black and white students did not measure the intelligence
of black students, but the rate of black to white cultural assimilation.
When the speech was over, some worried parents came up to say that
they knew all along that their child was smart, but that they didnt
know what was wrong. Others were concerned because they had bought
the line that something that we have constructed in this country
known as "education" is objective and that if children

Comments: My 9 year old brother who
is also the only black student in his class was recently made to
stand up and read an excerpt from the book "Sounder" which has the
word nigger in it. He said it made him feel awful, but he read it
anyway. This is just one example of the harmful effects of this
word, the ignorance of those who tolerate it, and the reason it
should be renounced!
