Referral agents must have contacts or relationships that can influence
decisions of whether or not public/private bodies or companies advertise

An example of a referral agent

the public body or company to make a decision to do a contract with GreaterDiversity.com.
The contract should be based upon the needs of the entity and the merits of GreaterDiversity.com.

Getting
Down To Business:Two Things You Must Know Before Starting Your Own Business
By Mark Anthony McCray -- Before you start any business, there are
two questions you should ask yourself. Not only should you answer the questions,
but also I strongly recommend that you write down your answers. You may
have all the motivation, personal contacts, financial resources, and brilliant
ideas but what you do not have is the clarity of purpose that a written
set of objectives can produce. [FULL_TEXT]
Minority Programs Starved For Larger Piece
Of The Pie
By James Clingman -- You have probably heard the term “economic
inclusion” being bantered about lately, so here’s another
question: Who is doing the including? Who are they including? How does
a public project, or one funded with public dollars, come under the authority
of a white contractor or developer who, in turn, has the right to “include”
a certain percentage of “minorities?” [FULL_TEXT]
Central State, Kent launch Inter-University
Partnership
WILBERFORCE, OH Kent State University and Central State University

and open opportunities for students and faculty on both campuses.[FULL_TEXT]
Leadership:
African American Leaders Meet In Winston-Salem
To Address Black Issues
Winston-Salem, NC – The conference begins on May
3, 2003 with the opening of the Black Business Expo,
which runs through May 5 at the Benton Convention
Center. During the opening day of the Expo, a reception will be held to
recognize the City of Winston-Salem Minority/Women Business of the Year.
Also, on May 3 there will be a State of Black North Carolina Conference/WQMG
97.1 Young Professionals Mixer at the Sawtooth Building. The bi-partisan
conference will bring together African American leaders to address such
issues as economic development, politics, health, education, philanthropy,
religion and technology. Black Business Media LLC, a Winston-Salem-based
company, is producing the conference. Conference seminars and other activities
will be at the M.C. Benton Jr. Convention and Civic Center and other locations
in the city. [FULL_AGENDA]
Discrimination and Justice for All
WASHINGTON, DC — One of the most devastating things any
individual can experience is discrimination and retaliation in the work
environment. Discriminatory and retaliatory acts are declared reprehensible
by so many employers, yet many of these employers do not practice what
they preach. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission statistics have documented
a significant increase in claims alleging employment discrimination and
retaliation both in the Federal and private sector. The cause for this
increase is debatable; however, what is not debatable is the fact that
being successful in proving discrimination is rare — very rare.

USWCC Women’s Business Procurement
Project
Washington, D.C — The U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce
is establishing a bold new initiative that will provide women business
owners, government, and corporate and economic leaders with a framework
to create results that are more positive for women in procurement. “Women-owned
firms represent 38 percent of all businesses in the U.S., but capture
less than 5 percent of government and corporate purchasing dollars and
less than 3 percent of state purchasing dollars ... It is time for women
business owners and corporate and government leaders to come together
in a serious way to create real opportunities for women in procurement.”
