Disrespect, Distortion and Double
Binds
Media Treatment of Progressive Black
Leaders
By Jacqueline Bacon -- It is appropriate for reporters
and pundits to challenge, criticize and disagree with public figures of
all races; indeed, it is a central part of their jobs. At the same time
media commentators should avoid name-calling, stereotypes and other distractions
from substantive discussion about ideas or proposals; represent people’s
ideas and statements fairly and portray their actions and beliefs accurately.
Sadly, when it comes to African-American leaders who challenge the status
quo, such as the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Rev. Al Sharpton and professor
and author Cornel West, these standards are frequently violated —
including, in some cases, by African-American commentators. [FULL_TEXT]
Mistaken Diversity
Fault Blair and The Times
Not Affirmative Action
By Amos Jones -- courtesy www.blackcommentator.com
-- The Jayson Blair debacle has race all in it, but not in the simplistic
sense recently suggested by anti-civil rights types such as William McGowan
or liberals who choose to ignore the racial subplot. If we are willing
to face the fact that Mr. Blair was taking the place of another qualified
journalist — whether black or non-black — then we can move
on and identify the unfortunate Blair scenario for what it was: a bizarre
human-resources glitch that New York Times Executive Editor Howell
Raines called a “terrible mistake” in Sunday’s newspaper.

Healing the TOTAL Woman
Spiritual Commentary By Evangelist Lady Londen Winters
-- We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know
that they are good for us they help us learn to endure. And endurance
develops strength of character in us, and character strengthens our confident
expectation of salvation. Sisters we must begin to heal our people, our
communities, and ourselves. By faith and God’s strength, we can
do all things but fail. And if we fall, in His power we can get up again.
Nothing can keep a good woman down. [FULL_TEXT]

Cracking the Corporate Code
“The subtext of black executives’
experiences from 1965 to today is the enormous progress corporate America
has already made. At the same time, it is obvious how much work remains
to be done. “Cracking the Corporate Code” will speed up the
forward momentum, because the message is so clear and the logic so compelling.
We are on a journey to a very good place, and all America will reap the
rewards. — Steve Reinemund, CEO, PepsiCo, Inc. from the foreword.

Career Continuation
is a Lifestyle for a Lifetime!
P.H.D. Perspective By Stephanie
C. Harper -- Attracting the most qualified employees and matching
them to the position for which they are best suited is important for any
organization. Equally important is an individual who approaches a career
knowing what to expect from it. Planning for a career can seem like an
exhaustive endeavor, but it is key to becoming and remaining gainfully
employed. [FULL_TEXT]
Getting Paid What
You’re Worth
P.H.D. Perspective By Stephanie
C. Harper -- With today’s economy being in it’s present
state, many employers are taking advantage of not having to pay top salaries
for top talent. While it is your choice to accept or decline any offer
presented to you, it may be a bit easier to make your decision if you
know what you’re worth. [FULL_TEXT]
