America the Bilingual
Hispanics, without apology, refuse to “assimilate,” if that means giving up their culture and language. When it comes to breakfast cereal, Hispanics collectively indicated their choice would be determined by which one advertises in Spanish: Post Raisin Bran or Kellogg’s Corn Flakes. Asian Americans & Politics
The district’s boundaries were re-drawn in 2001 with the aim of getting an Asian American elected to the Legislature. Meng ran in 2002 but lost to fellow Democrat Barry Grodenchik. Universities Retreating from Affirmative Action
Though we celebrated the narrow 5-4 Supreme Court ruling upholding the concept of affirmative action, we didn’t realize that some universities, still facing threats from Right-wing think tanks and law firms, would back-peddle on affirmative action. That was a serious miscalculation. Continue»

Chase Bank Tries to Pull a Fast One
When I called Chase I didn’t have to ask to have that fee waived. As soon as I mentioned that it was on my statement the rep removed it instantly! If they really believed that I was completely at fault they may not have done this so quickly. Also, the rep and supervisor seemed well versed in arguing their points and my guess is that it’s because they have had practice or training on the topic. Continue»
