Embracing Diversity

It’s no surprise that many financial services organizations are spending so much time and effort to attract a more diverse range of customers and staff. We start, after all, from a point where products have been developed, and policies have been made, by groups that may no longer make up the majority voice of the UK. (By 2010, less than 20% of the workforce will be white, male, non-disabled and under 45.) Continue»

America the Bilingual

Hispanics, without apology, refuse to “assimilate,” if that means giving up their culture and language. When it comes to breakfast cereal, Hispanics collectively indicated their choice would be determined by which one advertises in Spanish: Post Raisin Bran or Kellogg’s Corn Flakes. Chase Bank Tries to Pull a Fast One

When I called Chase I didn’t have to ask to have that fee waived. As soon as I mentioned that it was on my statement the rep removed it instantly! If they really believed that I was completely at fault they may not have done this so quickly. Also, the rep and supervisor seemed well versed in arguing their points and my guess is that it’s because they have had practice or training on the topic. Continue»

You decide: Will the economy control Social Security?

Before I explain how, let me highlight the candidates‚ differences. Sen. Kerry said he planned no changes to Social Security’s current operation. If shortfalls became apparent, he would have assembled a panel of experts to recommend changes. This approach was used in the 1980s when Social Security was last modified. Continue»

Big Business Keeps Eye on Historic Human Rights Case

The case has become a sort of poster child for a long line of similar cases against multinational corporations and the security forces they often use to protect their projects in the developing world. A group of Nigerians are trying to sue Chevron for the murder of protestors at Chevron’s Parabe offshore platform and the destruction of villages in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. Continue»
